- Turning off the main water supply
- Pressurizing the system with air to force out all the water from the pipes and draining it at each fixture
- Turning gas or electric off and draining the water heater
- Checking the dishwasher, washing machine, and refrigerator to ensure no water remains which could freeze and damage the appliance
- Ensure every p-trap in the home receives safe, non-toxic antifreeze
- Labeling of all fixtures and critical valves to indicate winterization has taken place
